Week 2: Summer of Sports – Daily Exercise Challenge

Thank you for an amazing Week 1 of Alice's Summer of Sports! If you are on Instagram you can join in and follow or campaign to get in shape for summer over there – just look for the # tag #AliceSummerofSports

If you're new and just passing, we are here with you all summer with a 'Summer of Sports: Daily Exercise Challenge' and this one’s bound to get some giggles out of the kids and the family! Take part in the daily exercise challenge, and become a medal winner from your own home, garden or local park. See below a list of Week 2's activity ideas – feel free to join in or come up with your own moves for the week. This is a NO PRESSURE challenge, the main thing is to (get the little ones) to do more moving than they/you usually would do and more importantly, have fun whilst doing so. Your favourite When Alice Sleeps characters will also join you in a variety of playful exercise routines.

Started on Monday 26th July – 8th August in our quest to get moving more this summer, if your little one gets excited about dance and movement like mine does, then use this excitement to create your own living room or backyard Olympics. Movement is so important to incorporate into our little one’s daily life, and I believe it is our job as parents to encourage an active, healthy lifestyle – who said working out would be boring!? Not with Alice and her amazing friends!

Choose a movement challenge and compete to join in our Summer of Sports daily exercise ideas. Note, times outlined for each activity is just a guide, and if you want to do it for longer feel free to do so – have fun!

DAY 8: Lion Jumps! Today's challenge is to do 20 super star jumps!

Alice's Tip: To do a super star 'lion' jump, stand tall with your arms by your side and knees slightly bent. Jump up, extending your arms and legs out into a shining star shape in the air – make sure you stretch! Land softly, with your knees together and hands by your side.

DAY 9: High Knees!

Today's challenge is to do 20 high knees How do you do High Knees? Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Lift up your left knee to your chest (or just as high as you can). Switch to lift your right knee to your chest. Continue the movement, alternating legs and moving at a sprinting or running pace.

Alice's Tip: Take it slow if it’s your first time trying high knees. As a modification, march in place, slowly lifting one knee to your chest and switching for the other knee.

Why not play some music while you do so for extra fun and why not get the whole family involved?

DAY 10: Cycling! Let's go for a ride.... Time to go for a ride.... Today's challenge is to ride on your bike! Biking is a great way for your children to get out in the fresh air, whilst burning calories. Alice naturally love riding a bike – it's one of her favourite hobbies. Cycling has more than just the obvious benefits: keeping the kids engaged, reducing screen time, and making you a favourite parent. It also comes with a huge number of fitness and social benefits too.

DAY 11: Skipping!

Today's challenge is skip for fun to your favourite song.

Alice's Tip: Here are a couple of our quick and easy jump rope games. These are a great way to get kids started with skipping games. Super simple and fun!

Scissor jumps: Land with one foot forward, then on the next jump switch feet

Cross jumps: Land with feet crossed like an X, then apart, then crossed again

Swing: Land on one foot and swing the opposite leg out to the side, then switch on next jump

DAY 12: Let's Dance!

Today's challenge is dance to your favourite song – boogie time is the best kinda time in our books!

As well as being a really fun form of exercise, dance is a way for kids to express their creativity, imagination and emotions. Dancing is completely FREE! You can literally dance anywhere too – you don't even have to leave the house. So go on, put on some music and give it a try.

What's your favourite tunes to dance to? we'd love to hear your favourite songs to compile a playlist! Alice's Tip: Find a snazzy pair of shoes to wear and tap your feet to the beat.

DAY 13: Tree Poser!

Today's challenge is to do the tree pose for 1 minute while trying to keep your balance like Olympic gymnasts. The tree pose is a fantastic way for your child to develop their balance skills.

Alice's Tip: Try to do tree pose along with your child – slowly and carefully so that they can copy you. Your child will love to do the activity with you and moving with your child is a powerful way to strengthen the bond between you both.

DAY 14: Happy Football!

Today's challenge is to show off your football skills like David Beckham! Or simply, kicking the ball too will do :)

Alice's Tip: Alice wants to teach you all about football, so let's head outside. With Alice as goalkeeper, imagine you must kick the ball past her to score.

Each of the activities and challenges have been designed to take place in a safe and suitable space, under parent or guardian supervision.

– Love, Alice and friends x
